Dr Jane Brooks is Senior Lecturer in the Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work at the University of Manchester. She is Deputy Director of the UK Centre for the History of Nursing and an RCN History of Nursing Society Committee Member. Her book Negotiating Nursing: British Army Sisters and Soldier in the Second World War (Manchester University Press) has just been published. Her lecture, based on vivid oral testimony, will explore the experience specifically of Jewish Nurses in Britain around the period of World War II.
