The Tears of Monterini with novelist Amanda Weinberg

Monday, 23 November 2020 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Jewish Historical Society: South London, Kent & Surrey branch in conjunction with Catford & Bromley Synagogue is welcoming Amanda Weinberg who will be talking about the inspiration for her novel ‘The Tears of Monterini’.

In 1998 she discovered the magical village of Pitigliano and became fascinated with its Jewish history and culture. She became closely connected to the village and its inhabitants and was inspired to write a novel based on true events during the fascist era of Mussolini. She will discuss her research into this period which took her beyond Pitigliano to Emiglia-Romagna and to Rome. You will journey with her through the history of the time as she explores her relationship with the village, its inhabitants, the Catholic – Jewish bond and the role of the partisans. Her novel is particularly relevant to the world we live in today and will appeal to anyone interested in history, Italy, Jewish culture and family dynamics.
