28th February 2021 | 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Ze’ev Portner (Bucks New University) has been invited by the JHSE Essex branch to speak about the Jews of Barbados, a community with a history that dates back to 1628.

Ze’ev Portner is a Law Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University, specialising in the teaching of employment  and public law.

He lived in Israel, for five years, from 2010-2015, where he qualified as an advocate, in the law offices of Gilead Sher and Co, working directly for prominent advocate, and former peace negotiator, Gilead Sher.  Prior to making Aliyah, Ze’ev worked, for  ten years, for former Labour MP, Louise Ellman, as her Parliamentary Assistant and Political Adviser, at Westminster.

Ze’ev has delivered lectures in politics, history and law at Greenwich, Tel Aviv universities, has had  articles published in the Jewish Chronicle, Jewish News, Jerusalem Post, Times of Israel,  Haaretz,  and the match day programme of Watford Football club, the team that he supports.

Ze’ev has visited Barbados three times, twice in 2015, and once in 2016, and during his stays, conducted research into the history, of the Jews of Barbados.
