This talk, which includes segments from wartime movies, introduces new research on all varieties of photography and film in wartime America and Britain. Leo Rosten of Joys of Yiddish and The Education of Hyman Kaplan fame will be presented as a critical force in all US Second World War movies, applying the lessons of the film programmes in Britain and its empire for the benefit of America’s war aims.
