About the event

Jewish History as an academic discipline is barely 200 years old. But of course Jews have written and thought about the past since biblical times. This presentation will explore the different lenses Jews have used to consider their past with a focus on the term ‘Memory’. I will argue for the restoration of memory as a foundational element of Jewish identity to both enrich and be enriched by history, its younger sibling.

Our speaker, Michael Wegier is a Chief Executive of the Board of Deputies. He has worked as a Jewish Educator, Strategic Planner and Chief Executive for Jewish organisations in the UK, Israel, and the United States. He has a degree in Jewish History from UCL and an MA in Contemporary Jewry from the Hebrew University.
