About the event

Dr Dean Irwin (Independent Scholar) in conversation with Professor Miri Rubin (Queen Mary University of London and President of the JHSE)

York is always associated with the tragic events of 1190. In recent decades research in the community and by academics has vastly broadened our understandings of the community before, during and after 1190. This has changed our understanding of the long history of Jews in York. Yet there is a tenacious attachment to one year ad one event in the press and among the wider public.

In their conversation Dean and Miri will share with you what we really know of about Jews in York across the Middle Ages, and under the meaning of the conic status it inhabits in Jewish memory.

The JHSE welcomes members of the York community to join, as well as members of historical societies engaged with understanding the city's past.
