About the event
Join us to celebrate 200 years since the first record of the Brighton Hebrew Congregation inn 1824. The meeting will be opened by the President of the Society, Miri Rubin, followed by speakers Michael Crook and Professor Tony Kushner.
14.00 – 14.15 Miri Rubin (President JHSE)
14.15 - 15.15 - Michael Crook (Sussex Branch Chair) – Two hundred years of the Brighton (and Hove) Hebrew Congregation.
15.15 – 15.30 Tea break
15.30 – 16.30 Professor Tony Kushner (Southampton University) - An unorthodox History of Sussex Jewry - Jewish life outside Brighton & Hove, which Tony has been researching, and which forms the subject of his forthcoming book.
If you wish to join a Jewish walking tour of Central Brighton in the morning 11:00-13:00, or enjoy a light lunch at BNJC from 13.00, cost £25.00, please contact Michael Crook on amcrook321@gmail.com. Places on the tour are limited, so please book early.
The meeting will also be streamed online, for those who wish to join via Zoom.
