It is with a profound sense of shock and deep sadness that the Society learnt of the death of Council member David Cesarani OBE D.Phil. David died on October 25th following a serious illness.
David was born in London in 1956. He was a Research Professor in History at the Royal Holloway, University of London. From 2000-2004 he was Professor of Jewish History and Director at the Parkes Centre for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations at the University of Southampton. He was also Director of the Institute of Contemporary History at the Weiner Library. David published widely and among his most recent publications was After the Holocaust: Challenging the Myth of Silence. He was also the author of the official history of the Jewish Chronicle: The Jewish Chronicle and Anglo-Jewry 1841-1991. In 2005 David was awarded an OBE for ‘services to Holocaust Education and advising the government with regard to the establishment of Holocaust Memorial Day’.
