THE JEWISH MONARCH AND QUEEN ELIZABETH

The following quaint document was placed at my disposal some time back by a visitor to Florence. This proposal of marriage deserves a place among several other similar proposals to the Queen. There are obviously many mistakes in the Latin, but they are not sufficient to prevent a clear understanding of the whole.

Cum electa gens nostra Romarum Imperatorum tyrannide oppressa ac per totum orbem dispersa, diu satis durissimam servlerit servitutem omniunq effrenatae Violentiae probroq multis iam seculis pertulerit.
