New Books: Two Centuries of Scottish Jewry and Jews in Uniform
Two Centuries of Scottish Jewry (Kenneth Collins, Chief Editor, with Bernard Wasserstein and Aubrey Newman) has just been published. The book marks the completion of an ambitious demographic and genealogical study which has critically influenced the narrative of Scotland’s Jews. The book has 400 pages detailing the study methodology and several specially commissioned articles covering such topics as arts and culture, Jewish women during the immigrant period, early Scottish Zionism and a study of five generations of an immigrant family.
The book is available to members of the Jewish Historical Society of England for a discount on the normal price of £20 – special price £15 incl. p&p.

Jews in Uniform
A new photo-book has been published by Aster Publishing entitled ‘Jews in Uniform’ by Michael Greisman. It features a restored photograph from each of the 100+ contributors with a biography detailing their war-time experiences and memories plus brief details of their lives before and after the war. It also includes an introduction written by Martin Sugarman and a recommended reading list.
The book shows that the Jewish community participated in every aspect of the war effort from front-line services in the Army, Navy and Air Force to the Fire & Ambulance Services, the Security Services, the Civil Defence and ARP, the Land Army and Home Guard.
